Abstract

Consuming halal and good food (halalan thayyiban) is a fundamental aspect of Islamic teachings. Therefore, any violation of this principle is considered a violation of Islamic rules. This study was designed to analyze the concept of consumption from various dimensions, while also investigating forms of violation through a case study of the Widuran Fried Chicken Restaurant in Solo, which caused serious controversy regarding the halal status of food products in the community because it was found to be using pork oil. This research applies a qualitative approach using library research methods. Primary data sources were obtained from the Qur'an, hadith, and the book Tafsir al-Munir by Wahbah az-Zuhaili. Meanwhile, secondary data was collected from various interdisciplinary scientific journals covering science, law, and social sciences, as well as media coverage. The results of the analysis show that the practice of using pork oil violates the principle of halalan thayyiba as commanded by Allah in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 168, as well as the strict prohibition on consuming all parts of pigs in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 173. In addition, the Hadith about honest producers (HR. Ibn Majah and Ad-Daraquthni) and the principle of fairness in consumption (HR. Abu Dawud no. 2934) emphasize the importance of transparency in food production activities. From a scientific perspective, the consumption of pork products has been proven to pose health risks (Ansori, 2023; Kholestyana & Salsabila, 2023), In the realm of positive law, such actions violate the Consumer Protection Law and the Halal Product Guarantee Law (Gunawan & Cornelia, 2023). Furthermore, haram intake has been proven to have a negative impact on the spirituality and morals of a Muslim (Uyuni, Adnan, & Muhibuddin, 2018; Milhan, 2024). This study emphasizes that halal is not only about food substances, but also the production process and the ethics of business actors.
