Abstract

This study explores distributive justice from the perspective of Qur'anic exegesis and the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad SAW, focusing on the case of rice hoarding by JNE in Depok that caused social and economic disparities. In Islam, the principle of distributive justice forbids hoarding and the concentration of wealth among particular groups, as stated in Surah Al-Hasyr verse 7, which commands that wealth should not only circulate among the rich but also reach the poor, orphans, and travelers. Hadiths also warn against unlawfully acquiring others' property. This study emphasizes that the practice of rice hoarding contradicts the Islamic distributive justice principle that prioritizes the welfare of all social layers. The research uses tafsir and hadith literature reviews along with socio-economic case analysis to demonstrate the relevance of Islamic distributive justice principles in a modern context.
