Abstract

The inequality of wealth distribution is a fundamental challenge in realizing social justice in Indonesia, which is reflected from the still fluctuating Gini Ratio figures. Islam offers a solution through the Baitul Mal institution initiated by Rasulullah SAW as an instrument of economic equality. This research aims to dissect the operational principles of Baitul Mal during the time of Rasulullah SAW and analyze its relevance to the wealth distribution system and social justice in Indonesia today. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. The research results show that the success of Baitul Mal during the time of Rasulullah lies in the integration of zakat, infak, alms, and fair taxes (kharaj&jizyah) instruments that are managed transparently and accountable. In the Indonesian context, these principles are very relevant to be transformed through the strengthening of zakat regulation as a tax deduction (tax credit). The implementation of Baitul Mal's values systemically can reduce the economic gap and strengthen the foundation of national social justice.
